Hi! My name
is Elise Johnson and I am a freshman this year at ISU. I’m a Special Education
(Learning Behavior Specialist) major and also working on a piano minor. It is obvious to see that I don’t have much
time to do more pleasurable things, but that is ok with me because I love what
I do. I am also a very crafty person. I
love scrapbooking and making decorations for my dorm room with my friends when
I do have spare time. I am also a Disney fan, and usually end up watching a
Disney movie at nights as I do my homework, which ends up distracting me more
than I need it to be.
My
relationship with reading is not as strong as I’d like it to be, but it is not
entirely nonexistent. I love reading fantasy books such as The Chronicles of Narnia and The
Harry Potter series’. I tend to re-read these novels more than new novels
suggested to me by others. I don’t really read for fun in my spare time except
for the monthly magazines of Seventeen
and Us Weekly. I would say I am a good reader, but I could
do better in my critical thinking skills when analyzing a novel in class. I
generally read slower, but when I do finish a reading I know pretty well what
happened and can have a discussion on it. As for writing, I would say I am a
decent writer. I can get my point across in my writing fairly well and stay on
track while giving examples. I am not
the best writer though which is what I plan to improve here in Eng. 101.
My
expectations for this class are to familiarize myself with the writing styles
of the collegiate world, and be more comfortable and confident in my own
writing. I also hope to fine-tune some
of my English reading skills and make them more applicable to my future
classes.
